The Challenge
The publisher wanted a competitive puzzle experience — not another solo match-3. They needed real-time multiplayer in Unity, ranked seasons, and a live-ops calendar that could drive recurring revenue and community engagement on mobile.
Our Approach
Riftwood Studio architected Puzzle Arena Live around short synchronous matches with Photon Fusion networking, a seasonal ranked ladder, and event templates the live-ops team could schedule monthly.
- Real-time 1v1 puzzle matches with sub-120ms median latency
- Ranked seasons with tier rewards and demotion protection
- Winter/summer live-ops event templates with limited-time cosmetics
- Cross-platform iOS and Android matchmaking pool
- Crash and network quality monitoring via Unity Gaming Services
Live Ops Execution
Seasonal events were designed as reusable Unity content packs. The ops team could activate banners, reward tracks, and special match rules without code changes. Peak concurrent players during the winter event drove a 62% DAU uplift over the pre-event baseline.
Outcomes
The title sustained 18K+ DAU during peak event windows, maintained strong store ratings thanks to network stability work, and gave the client a repeatable live-ops playbook for future Unity mobile releases.
